What do you think of as a tool? A hammer, or a pair of pliers; objects stored in a toolbox, maybe. What about a pepper shaker or a political button? The definition of a tool expands beyond objects that we normally think of as tools. All tools have one thing in common: each is created to satisfy a need and can tell us something about the time in which it was created.
As you view this exhibit, ask yourself what tools you use every day, from your coffee mug to your phone charger, what couldn’t you live without? Think about what tools survived, unchanged, for centuries. What needs do you have that change the way you use tools?
The exhibit runs through February 2019
