Today is National Gingerbread House Day
This is NOT an event at SCHS. However, we wanted to recognize the holiday. Therefore, here is what you need to make a Gingerbread House at your own home: several graham crackers (break into big-ish squares); thick frosting, white is best (you can put a little in a bowl and add food coloring to use for decorating too); hard candies & gumdrops (flat bottom candies work best - think peppermints); cut-out sugar cookies.
Use the frosting to “glue” four graham crackers into a square - hold them until they stick well and stand up on their own. Then put a graham cracker on top for the roof. Or, use your imagination to create a unique house design! Use the frosting to decorate your “gingerbread” house anyway you want. I liked adding some strings of red licorice on the corners of the house, and colorful gumdrops for shingles. Use your imagination, maybe drip some frosting from the roof too. Holiday music is a big help for inspiration. Add a little cotton around the house and you’re done!
** NOTE: Be careful making this craft with little children as some candies can be choking hazards!
