Early Settlers in Scott County: The Hoofhower Family and Their Home

  • Scott County Historical Society 235 Fuller Street South Shakopee, MN, 55379 United States (map)

This presentation by Dennis and Linda Dvorak details the history of the Hoofhower family who, in the 1850s, lived near what was once the town of Lydia.  The original log home stood on the site of the Hoofhower's farm until it was moved to New Prague as part of the centennial celebration in 1956.  In conjunction with the presentation there will also be a video showing the interior of the restored home along with its contents, illustrating how the family lived during the mid-19th century.

Dennis and Linda Dvorak live in New Prague.  Dennis founded the New Prague Area Historical Society in 1983.  Both Linda and Dennis have served as president of the society and continue to give tours of the log house and history shed during community events.
