Scott County Stories: Women's Suffrage

  • Scott County Historical Society 235 Fuller Street South Shakopee, MN, 55379 United States (map)

On August 18, 1920, the 19th amendment to the United States constitution was ratified, giving many women the right to vote in nationwide elections for the first time.

This may seem like a sudden change, but women and men across the country had been working for decades to secure the vote, through high profile events and tireless grassroots community organizing efforts.
